It's People Like You What Causes Unrest

Albury and Stupid Royalty

We've arrived at Aunty Debbie and Uncle Greg's place in Albury. The trip down was relatively painless, apart from the glare off the roads that made it bloody painful. Must get wrap-around sunglasses! The Boy Wonder slept for about half the trip, but the BatPup stayed awake and complained about being bored (silly monkey).

We've introduced the monkeys to their Graunts and Gruncles (Great Aunts and Great Uncles), plus some Grousins (ie first cousins once removed) and one Scousin (second cousin). Having a pleasant time, especially now that the monkeys are all asleep. It's bloody hot of course, because Albury is a very silly place. Looking forward to Tassie weather even more now.

Meanwhile, I've just heard the news from the SCA: the Kingdom of Lochac has officially jumped the shark. The peerage system, specifically the Order of the Pelican, no longer has any credibility, and anyone here who tries to stand up for them will be laughed at. Bitterly. And then I'll spit in their faces. The best I can hope is that they'll never offer me a peerage, because a punch in the face often offends...

Oh. I've been ignoring the SCA lately, what have we done?

Ah; Righto, identified. I sympathise, but not having had to deal with the source, don't have a great degree of personal investment in the matter.

There is this erroneous belief out there that if you have a scadian who is a prat, but has what some regard as aspects approaching peerage qualities (either due to ability, or due to the individual's sufficient stacking of the deck, or having held an office that previous _normally_ competent holders get a peerage after having had to suffer it, etc), then giving them a peerage is supposed to iron out the pratness by the educating and rationalising effect of having responsibility.

It doesn't work in most cases, all you end up with is a peer who's a prat.

There's been a spate of questionable peerage-ings lately. Certainly clarifies my personal goals.

Damn, I'm out of the loop. Care to fill me in on who and why questionable?

The gentle in question *might* be someone who etfb has been performing clean-up tasks in the wake of, which would give Batty some...uh...unique insights.

Yes. Batty has been performing clean-up tasks, but he's not the only one.

I am utterly out of the loop, then. A Politicropilan? Rohannite? If it is, I'm vanishing unlikely to be able to put a face to name.

Maybe Messire Bat can explain this evening.

PS: Is that a Bonnacon?

It's called a continential panther, which is a rare form of German charge. It comes from the arms of Styria (now in Austria) and there are a few other examples. Although it is a composite monster, with a few different depictions and descriptions all of which usually have eagles feet, it is essentially a cow. A flaming cow.

A bonnacon is a also a flaming cow, but the flames come out the other end.

you're absolutely right about the bonnacon... I was thinking of the catoblepas, but glitched on the name.

did someone get peled in polit recently?

Ah, The One Who Likes Making Pretty Pictures, then.

I'm out of the loop and I have my own SCA disillusionment to deal with. What's going down?

Having said that.... there has to be the *recommendations from the peerage* in order for the royalty to bestow.

So... I think laying the blame on the feet of the current royals, is perhaps hitting the mark a little wide.

I am (believe it or not) not up to speed with what has happened here. Living in China and not playing SCA currently is my reasoning for such. I clearly am not paying attention, mainly for my own sanity. Go ahead, call me a bad Pelican. I won't take it personally.

There's been instances where royalty have ignored the wishes of the Peerages and elevated or not. I am not saying that this has been the case here, because I honestly do not know. But ultimately, it is their decision with or without counsel or recommendation.

If you know something I don't, please let me know.

No, I don't have a clue. I know something of Events... I'm merely suggesting that without all information, going off like a frog in a sock [which is perfectly fair and reasonable on your own personal LJ, but somewhat more inflammatory on facebook] may not *quite* be warranted.

I'm also suggesting that just 'blaming' the K&Q WITHOUT other knowledge, is a little ... rude.

How does a frog in a sock go off? I'm intrigued. Is it noisy?

If you'd ever gotten back from a week-long camping trip and opened the dirty socks and jocks bag in the laundry to discover the decomposing remains of a "pet" frog one of the kids stuffed into a sock and promptly forgot about, you'd know.

The peerage system, specifically the Order of the Pelican, no longer has any credibility, and anyone here who tries to stand up for them will be laughed at. Bitterly. And then I'll spit in their faces.

I've read your LJ enough to know that what this is a reaction to, though out here in Aneala I have no dog in that particular fight, I don't know either of you.

Having said that I'd be much obliged if you would laugh bitterly at me, and then spit in my face.

Having been deliberately ignoring the SCA over the last couple of months, what have I missed?
I watched the Order of Chivalry jump the shark in August, I was not aware that the Pelicans had done the same.
